No one to date has tackled convergence with the zeal and commitment of Media General, Inc., the parent company of the Tampa Tribune, WFLA-TV and online news provider Tampa Bay Online or TBO.com, reports the RTNDA. "What makes this covergence unique," says Gil Thelen, the Tribune's executive editor and vice president, "is that this is the only place in the country where you have a newspaper, television station and online division under one roof."

They commissioned a private company to create a sample, secure, online ballot, which walks users through an interactive vote of presidential, congressional and local candidates. A clever, original use of the Web -- and one of the few original online projects by a newspaper's editorial section.
Poynter's Al Tompkins offers these lessons from converged newsrooms.
